I was not really looking forward to the day that I had to go back to work and not spend every moment with Abby. My last day before I returned to work we had a fabulous day - vanilla latte at the Dipsea, walked through Golden Gate Park, shopped at Sports Basement and then home to tuck Abby into bed.
Many of the articles I read suggested that mom's returning to work head back later in the week rather than on a Monday. I went back on Thursday and it was really the right thing to do.
Working for a very family friendly company has made my transition back to work so enjoyable. I was able to come back two weeks early in exchange for a flexible schedule. I have also been very lucky that Marty is staying home with Abby during the day and I have been able to come home between 4-5 depending on the day. I work from home in the morning and then again after Abby goes to bed. I would much rather do that and enjoy this precious time with Abby that I have. I know that all of this has been much easier since I don't have to put her into daycare. It will be a juggle but I am glad that hopefully it is going to work out. My advice to any new mom in this situation is to be reasonable with your expectations, don't be to hard on yourself and talk to your employer openly about your work life experience.
